CREWE AND NANTWICH BOROUGH COUNCIL -
BACKGROUND
Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council ("the Council") is the
public authority operating this publication scheme.
The Council is composed of 56 elected members with
approximately one third elected three years in four.
The Council as a whole serves a population of around
110,000. Councillors are democratically accountable to
residents of their ward.
The Council operates an executive model of decision
making. The executive is made up of councillors chosen by the
full council plus a leader and deputy leader also chosen by the
Council. The executive at the Council is called "the
Board". The leader and other board members (called portfolio
holders) have specific areas of responsibility.
The portfolios are:
- The Local Community
- The Local economy
- Resources
- The Local environment
- Local Activities
- Civic Affairs
There are three scrutiny committees known as Performance and
Overview Committees which scrutinise and review decisions of
members and officers.
The executive has to make decisions which are in line with the
Council's policy framework and budget. Further details of the
portfolios, policy framework and budget process can be found in the
Council's Constitution. The Constitution can be inspected
free of charge at Council offices and libraries. It can be
downloaded from the Council's website. Hard copies are available
for purchase on payment of a fee.
The Council has adopted values, priorities and commitments
based upon public consultation, elected members aspirations and
good practice. These underpin everything the Council does.
They are contained in the Council's Community Strategy and
