COUNCILLOR ROY CARTLIDGE

Roy Cartlidge has been a Labour Councillor for the St Barnabas Ward of Crewe since first being elected in 1996, then again in 1999, 2000 and 2004 respectively.  Over those years Roy has become involved in community groups and chairs a local environmental group called the Marshfield Greenwatch Group.  A former member of Our House Community Association (now called Webbies) Committee he has led community activities such as litter picks, surveys, and consultations with community groups.
 
He has also led campaigns on Post Office service closures, and Bus service cuts with the use of petitions, which led to the reinstatement of the Leighton Hospital service.
 
Roy is very supportive of the Neighbourhood forum meetings and firmly believes that only by working together can we hope to put an end to anti-social behaviour which in turn will raise the area's image as a good place to live.
 
His input on outside organisations such as the Cheshire Association of Town & Parish Councils; Local Government Association Rural Commission as a voting member; Crewe & Nantwich District Public Transport Liaison Committee; Citizens Advice Bureau; and the C&N Community Trust has helped to realise their policy aims to prioritise and target resources to those people who are in the most vulnerable in our community and area.
 
Roy has been appointed to the following Committees for the municipal year 2007/2008:
Deputy Chair Standards Committee; member of the Performance & Overview committee Local Economy & Environment with responsibility and role of spokesperson on the environment for the Labour Group;also Labour Group Champion for Cycling.

Appointed to the following Outside Organisations:
Cheshire Association of Town & Parish Councils; Local Government Association Rural Commission;  also Crewe & Nantwich Community Trust a Charity for the people of the Borough.
 
Roy served as a Parish Councillor on Minshull Vernon & District Parish Council, serving the Woolstanwood Parished area in the St Barnabas Ward. Between 1999 to 2004
Labour Group Spokesperson on the environment,
 
Lead member on public consultation open space review held on the 30th March 2005 at Crewe MMU.
 
Founded the Public Consultation Panel on Allotments.
 
Borough Council's Cycling Champion, championing the benefits of cycling and forming a cycle strategy with the help of local cycle groups, charities, clubs. 
 
Roy's other interests are:
A keen birdwatcher and is a member of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Gardening and upkeep of an allotment and cycling helps him to keep fit.
A railway steam enthusiast and shareholder of the Llangollen Steam Railway.
Armchair motor sports fan of motoGP Motorcycling.
Member of the IRSE (Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers) currently working for Carillion Rail.
Roy is married with two grown up Daughters:
Roy has lived in Coppenhall Lane for 20 years, and in Crewe all his life.
