Council Tax Property Banding Information
All residential properties are valued for Council
Tax purposes by the Valuation Office Agency (part of the Inland
Revenue), not the local council.
Properties are placed in one of eight valuation
bands from A to H.
The basis of the valuation is the 'capital value',
which is arrived at by estimating the amount each dwelling might
have been sold for on the open market, subject to certain
assumptions, if it had been sold on 1st April 1991. This date has
been used to place all valuations on a common footing.
Changes in value since then do not normally count.
The following table shows the range of values, based on 1991
prices, for each band:
| BAND |
RANGE OF VALUES (AS AT 1ST
APRIL 1991) |
|
A
|
Up to £40,000 |
| B |
£40,001 to £52,000 |
| C |
£52,001 to £68,000 |
| D |
£68,001 to £88,000 |
| E |
£88,001 to £120,000 |
| F |
£120,001 to £160,000 |
| G |
£160,001 to £320,000 |
| H |
£320,001 and over |
