Council Tax
The Council Tax is a locally set tax that is payable on all
domestic properties.
There is one council tax bill for each dwelling, whether it is
a house, bungalow, flat, maisonette, mobile home or houseboat and
whether it is owned or rented.
The tax is based on property value and the assumption that
there are two or more adults (aged over 18) in residence. The
council tax collected goes towards paying for the services provided
by Cheshire County Council, the Cheshire Police Authority, the
Cheshire Fire Brigade and Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council.
However, most of the funding required to pay for these services is
met from Government grants with the balance coming from fees and
charges, Business Rates and Council Tax.
Most Parish Councils also levy a parish charge to cover costs
incurred by providing facilities for their particular parish e.g.
village halls.
Cheshire County
Council is responsible for education, social
services, highways and roads, traffic management and road safety,
public transport, libraries, waste disposal, planning and
development and other services.
Crewe and Nantwich Borough
Council provides refuse collection, car parking,
recreation grounds, street cleaning, cemetery and crematorium,
planning, markets, town centre management and CCTV, leisure
facilities, tourist information, sports and art development,
electoral registration, environmental health, safer communities,
emergency planning, concessionary travel and other related
services.
