Acton Amateur Operatic Society perform Annie at the Lyceum Theatre

0017/ch/M
26th September 2008

Acton Amateur Operatic Society is staging a production of the classic tale of Annie at the Lyceum Theatre starting 30th September 2008 until 4th October 2008.

Annie tells the story of an orphan who runs away from the orphanage she has lived in most of her life (and the horrible matron Miss Hannigan) in search of her parents and in the process adopts a dog she calls Sandy.

She has an offer to be adopted by the rich businessman, Mr. Warbucks, but first she would like the chance to find her real parents. Warbucks puts out a reward of $50,000 to anyone who can prove to be Annie’s real parents but this is depression era New York and so there are lots of fraudulent claims, including one from the matron Miss Hannigan.

The fraudulent claimants are found out and taken to jail. Happiness is restored and Annie can look forward to a brighter future.

The Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich, Councillor Brian Silvester and the Mayoress Ms. Sheila Davies, will be the guests of honour on opening night. The Mayor said: “I am delighted to have been invited to the opening night of  Annie. It is important that local groups such as Acton Amateur Operatic Society are supported as they do so much good work in the Borough. The Society has been well established in our community for over 80 years and I pay tribute to their contribution to the arts and entertainment locally. I hope that local residents will flock to the theatre for their latest performance, which I am sure will be of their usual very high quality. ”

Acton Amateur Operatic Society was founded in 1920 with the intention of raising funds for local charities and nurturing local performing arts talent. Since 1964 they have mainly rehearsed at Acton Parish Hall and performed all of their shows at the Lyceum Theatre.

Tickets start from £6.00 and can be bought from the Lyceum Theatre at their box office or by calling 01270 537333.
