Questions to the Council Board
If you have a question that you would like to submit to the Council
Board, or an individual Member of the Board, you can do so by
simply completing the on-line form on the menu at the side of this
page.
We want to encourage people to find out more about what we can
and cannot do, so your questions are welcome. There have to be some
safeguards and rules about how questions are asked, so here's the
small print....
There are certain provisions to bear in mind when you are
considering submitting a question and the following extract
(Procedure Rule 31 (1)) from the Council's Constitution details
these.
Any resident of the Borough or any person
having a business interest within the Borough may submit a written
question or petition to the Board or an individual Member of the
Board. The following provisions shall apply:-
(a) A question or petition should relate to the duties of
the Board (we will advise in cases of doubt). Questions or
petitions concerning particular individuals or applications for
licences, planning permission or other matters where recognised
means exist (either in law or in established practice), for persons
to make written representations or which involve quasi-judicial
considerations, will not generally be permitted.
(b) The question or petition, together with the name and
address of the elector submitting it, should be delivered by hand,
post, fax or e-mail to the Chief Executive at the Municipal
Buildings, Earle Street, Crewe, CW1 2BJ.
(c) Upon receipt, the question or petition will be
entered into a Register for that purpose.
(d) Any letter received containing a question will,
wherever possible, that same day be conveyed to all Members of the
Board. So far as practicable, any petition will be submitted to the
next scheduled Board meeting.
(e) We will ensure a written response from the Board is
posted within 7 working days of receipt of the question or
petition. If more time is needed to research the answer, the
sender will be notified.
(f) The date that the reply was sent will be recorded in
the Register.
(g) A copy of all questions and petitions received and
replies given will be available for public inspection during normal
office hours, at the Reception of the Municipal Buildings, Earle
Street, Crewe and for inspection by Members in the Members'
Room.
