About the Borough
Crewe and Nantwich Borough has a resident population of
111,006 and covers around 160 square miles. It offers a mix
of historic towns and unspoilt villages set in South Cheshire
countryside. The excellent communication links render the
Borough an ideal base for exploring surrounding areas.
South Cheshire is classic English countryside with gentle
rolling meadowland, picturesque meres and an abundance of trees. It
is a rich agricultural area noted for its carefully tended farms
and excellent Cheshire cheese.
The two main towns offer a contrast with each other.
Crewe is a thriving modern industrial and commercial centre,
complemented by the historic market town of Nantwich.
Whilst Crewe has a long history as a manufacturing and railway
engineering centre, Nantwich is best known for its agricultural
strengths, especially in the dairy industry.
However, in recent years a number of newer service and high
technology companies have moved into the area which now gives the
Borough a more diverse economic base.
