Recycling Bank Sites

Overview

There are loads of other opportunities for recycling in the Borough including the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Pyms Lane in Crewe (Operated by Cheshire County Council) and our recycling sites at around 120 convenient locations throughout Crewe & Nantwich situated on sites such as supermarkets, DIY stores, pubs and car parks.

Some of the items that can be recycled through the sites include: paper, glass, textiles, cans, plastics, books, shoes, cardboard, aluminium foil and drinks cartons.

Carton Recycling

You can now recycle your paper-based drinks and liquid food cartons, such as those made by Tetra Pak, at various points within the borough. Carton collection banks can be found at:

Waterloo Road, Haslington
Cheshire Street Car Park, Audlem
Morrisons, Crewe
B&Q, Crewe
Snowhill, Nantwich

Each year, UK beverage carton manufacturers produce 55,000 tonnes of paper-based cartons for milk, juice, sauces and other liquid food/drinks. This equates to around 2.3kg of cartons per household which could be recycled instead of thrown in the rubbish bin.

Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council is working with Tetra Pak and the carton industry body ACE UK (Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment) to establish carton collection points at key recycling points for residents to take their empty cartons to be recycled.

Once collected, the cartons can be taken away to be baled, transported to a recycling mill. They can be recycled into a number of different products, ranging from plasterboard liner to high-strength paper bags and envelopes.

Foil Recycling

Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council has introduced aluminium foil recycling banks at four sites across the Borough. The banks are situated at the following recycling sites:

Waterloo Road, Haslington
Cheshire Street Car Park, Audlem
Snowhill, Nantwich
Morrisons, Crewe

Residents will be able to recycle clean foil only, such as kitchen foil, take away containers, baking & freezing trays and foil milk bottle tops.

To ensure that it is aluminium foil that is being recycled, do the 'scrunch test', if the item returns back into its original shape then it is not recyclable.

The Aluminium foil will be taken to Houston & Sons in Victoria Avenue, Crewe to be recycled.
