Facts & Figures
- Last year the people of Crewe and Nantwich Borough threw away
around 50,000 tonnes of rubbish.
- 37.8% of this waste was recycled
(16,873 tonnes)
- The rest of it goes to landfill which costs over £1/2
million in landfill tax every year- paid through your
Council tax. And not only that, but the decomposing waste in
landfill sites is also a massive contribution to climate
change.
- We are rapidly running out of landfill space. This amount of
waste, uncompacted, is enough to fill Crewe Pool 320 times! - At
the rate we're going, we'll soon have to find a new landfill site
every year just to cope with our increasing amounts of rubbish-
it's forecast to grow by 25% in the next ten years.
