Major Developments in the Borough

Modus - Redevelopment of Crewe Town Centre

The Modus Group has exciting plans to create new shopping, residential and office space in and around Delamere Street, Queensway, Victoria Street and Chester Street.   The preliminary step has been taken by the Borough Council with a £3m scheme to improve the Municipal Square.   This will be followed by the development of Market Square as a modern piazza with space for family activities, exhibitions and performances.

The Crewe Town Centre redevelopment project is scheduled to start in 2008.   Modus has submitted an outline application for the £100m plus project.   The welcome relocation and redevelopment of the town bus station will be incorporated into this scheme.   
 
Richard Moon Street - Dunwoody Way
 
A major regeneration project is now under construction on the site of a former railway engineering works to the south of Richard Moon Street in Crewe.     The site is serviced by a new road, Dunwoody Way and gives access to a new food store and health centre.    Planning permission has recently been granted for the redevelopment of a further part of this brownfield site for residential development.
 

Crewe Rail Gateway Crewe
 
Crewe Railway Station - the gateway to the northwest of England and to Wales is due for an overhaul now the West Coast Main line is attracting more and more passengers.
 
After an options study and then a period of consultation, a preferred option has been agreed.   It is hoped to attract funding from the private sector and the Department of Transport.    The scheme incorporates architectural renovation, improved passenger facilities, a new high quality concourse area and improved traffic / parking arrangements.    To learn more click here for the web site.  
 
Crewe Rail Gateway Crewe
Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council has produced a development brief for the Crewe Rail Gateway area. The brief has now been adopted as a formal part of the Borough's Local Development Framework (LDF).

Queens Park Restoration
The Heritage Lottery Supported Queens Park Project is now well underway. The Project Team has been assembled including architectural and engineering consultancies to complement the Landscape Architectural practice Bertram Hyde and Quantity Surveyors EMB Consultants. The practices selected are SBS Architects and the engineers are Scott Hughes Design, both are Manchester based.
