Planning Aid provides free, independent and professional
advice and support on town and country planning matters to
disadvantaged community groups and individuals who cannot afford to
pay fees to a planning consultant. It complements the work of local
authorities, but
is wholly independent of them. From its inception
in 1973, Planning Aid
has been at the forefront of engaging communities in the
planning process.
Funding in 2003 from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister
(ODPM),
is helping to build a bigger and better Planning Aid network,
one that
provides more consistent levels of service and uses more
innovative
methods to involve local communities in the planning process.
In addition
Planning Aid is also funded by the Royal Town Planning
Institute (RTPI),
the Big Lottery Fund and other public, private and charitable
organisations.
Planning Aid in England is part of the RTPI (registered
charity no. 262865),
and is delivered through a network of 10 regional
services.
