Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act 1963
Notification (OSR1 Form)
The Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act 1963 (OSRPA) aims to
secure the health, safety and welfare of people employed to work in
offices, shops and certain railway premises. (Sections 1-3 of the
Act define the premises to which the Act applies.)
If an employer intends to employ anyone to work in an office or
shop, they are required by section 49 of the Act to notify the
appropriate enforcing authority beforehand.
They must provide specific details as laid down in the
Notification of Employment of Persons Order 1964 (SI 1964/533).
This is done by completing form OSR1 and sending two copies to
the appropriate authority (see guidance notes below).
Failure to comply with this requirement is an offence.
