New Property

Purchasers / Conveyancers are advised to submit property naming / numbering proposals for agreement by the Local Land and Property Custodian to ensure that the property is entered into the National Land and Property Gazetteer with the correct address for use by Land Registry, Royal Mail, utility companies, emergency  services and Council departments.

If you are a Developer/Owner of a new property, you should contact the Street Naming team prior to work commencing on site. A single dwelling will be named or numbered into the existing street, often abc's are used along with the adjoining number. Small developments on existing streets may need an additional identifying name.

Information required to allocate numbers to single dwellings / small developments on an existing street

  • A location/layout plan.
  • Planning application reference

In the case of naming a small development it is usual to consult the local Ward Councilor/s and Parish Council if appropriate.

The Council will only exceptionally name streets after a living individual.
The Gazetteer Team support the use of proposed names that reflect local history and heritage.
