Community Wardens call on public to give dog fouling
tip-offs
0081/ir
12th May 2008
Following a successful March, when six irresponsible owners were
issued £50 fixed penalty notices for failing to clean up after
their dogs, residents in the Borough are being asked by the
Council’s Community Wardens to report incidences of dog fouling in
parks, pavements and public spaces.
Uniformed Wardens can fine dog owners only if they see an
offence being committed or if a witness is willing to provide
statements which could be used in any court proceedings. Residents
are encouraged to contact the Wardens on 01270 254474 and leave
details of offences on the 24hr answer phone and report details,
including location, time and a description of anyone failing to
clean up after a dog. Reports can also be emailed to wardens@crewe-nantwich.gov.uk
The information, which can be given anonymously, will be used to
try to catch and fine irresponsible owners.
Dominic Gratty, the Senior Community Warden, said: "Dog fouling
is not only unattractive, it is a health hazard and can spoil
people's enjoyment of parts of the borough. The Wardens are
committed to catching and fining people, but they need help to know
where and when persistent offences happen.” He added: "We know
there are many responsible dog owners and residents who want to see
an end to dog fouling in our streets and parks, and I hope they
will give us the information we need to catch offenders."
Wardens will continue to convey this message to dog walkers and
other people they meet whilst out on patrol on the Borough’s
streets.
People failing to clean up after a dog can receive an
on-the-spot fine of £50. Failure to pay the fine could result in
the offender being prosecuted in a Magistrates Court and receiving
a fine of up to £1000.
