Crewe and Nantwich Lifelong Learning Partnership, part of the Local Strategic Partnership invited local adults to ‘Drop in and Have a Go’ at Underwood West Children’s Centre last week as part of Adult Learners Week.  Over 60 people came through the doors and there was plenty to do with jewellery making, mixed crafts, photography, nail painting and much more.  The Worshipful the Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich, Councillor Brian Silvester, and the Mayoress, Ms Sheila Davis, also came along.  Councillor Silvester has chosen Lifelong Learning as his mayoral theme for the next 12 months.

Cllr. Silvester said:” Learning is not just something you do at school. Opportunities to learn are increasingly available throughout peoples’ lives and it can open up new careers and change lives for the better. That is why I am such a strong advocate of Lifelong Learning and why I have made it the theme of my Mayoral year.”

Helen Costello, Lifelong Learning Coordinator, commented: “It was great to see so many people getting involved and enjoying the experience of learning.  Since we started to run courses at Underwood West Children’s Centre earlier this year we have had a lot of interest in adult learning.  We offer various leisure courses and we also have several people enrolled on a maths GCSE course with others keen to improve their skills in subjects such as IT and English.  Underwood West Children’s Centre is an ideal facility for this type of learning, right in the heart of the community with good crèche facilities and helpful and friendly staff.”

The Lifelong Learning Partnership will be running several 6 week courses across various venues this summer including Underwood West, Pebblebrook and Monks Coppenhall Children’s Centres and Eagle Bridge Health and Wellbeing Centre.  Courses will include Jewellery Making, Mixed Crafts, Cupboard Cookery and Healthy Eating on a Budget.  For more details or to book a place call Helen on 537510.
