WEST END OF CREWE IS TARGETED FOR RENAISSANCE

The West End Regeneration Plan outlines the vision for a coordinated approach to physical regeneration in the West End of Crewe.  It identifies a programme of projects to be delivered over the next 3-5 years that will significantly improve the local natural and built environment.  The initiative focuses on the Grosvenor, St Barnabas and Coppenhall wards of Crewe and aims to build on the success of the ‘Neighbourhood Action’ partnership work already being undertaken in the area. This ongoing work will be complemented by high specification physical regeneration to transform the area, improve residents’ lives and restore a sense of pride within the community.

Key projects include transforming open spaces into high quality community parks, revitalising the physical environment on West Street, building new affordable family housing, improving the physical condition of streets and promoting sustainable forms of transport.

Schemes will be sponsored and delivered by a range of organisations including Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, Cheshire County Council, Wulvern Housing, Manchester District Housing and the private sector.  The majority of projects will be delivered in partnership to ensure that the existing local community benefits from these schemes as much as possible.

Consultation will be undertaken on a project-by-project basis with local children, residents and businesses to allow their views and ideas to be incorporated into the design process. It is vital that the local community are given the necessary support to take ownership of their improved physical environment, to help ensure that the West End is a high quality environment where people want to live and work.

Borough Councillor David Brickhill, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “The many individual schemes which make up the whole of this excellent renewal plan have been under consideration for many years though nothing had been done about them until now.  So I have brought these projects together into a plan, which will turn them from ideas into action.”
