Borough Council and Partners scoop
National Award
Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council and partners, Wulvern Housing
and the Eastern Cheshire Primary Care Trust, have received a
national award for the Sustainable Communities Environmental
Initiative of the Year. The award is sponsored by the Local
Government Chronicle and the Health Service Journal and was
presented at a gala night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on
Monday 25th February.
Jonathan Porritt, veteran ecologist and
Co-founder and Programme Director of Forum for the Future,
presented the award to the project team and partnership
representatives. The award-winning project is focused on the
Pathways Community Café at Queens Park in Crewe that is run by a
team of young people and is a centre for providing advice, guidance
and training to other young people.
Commenting on the prestigious award, Borough
Council Leader, Brian Silvester said: “To win this award is a
tremendous tribute to everyone involved, the Borough Council, the
PCT, Wulvern, those who run the project and the young people.
It’s very heartening that the project has taken off as it has and
given opportunities to unemployed and disabled people. There
are many good examples of people whose lives have been transformed
through the café.”
