Young People’s Day in Crewe

22 July 2008
Young People’s Day is a free and exciting new event
taking place at St Barnabas Church Hall and Gardens on Wednesday 23
July 2008 between 11am and 3pm. The event has been organised by
Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council Community Development Team who
have been working together with Cllr. Roy Cartlidge and the local
Neighbourhood Forum.
The Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich, Councillor
Brian Silvester, accompanied by Mayoress Ms Sheila Davies, will be
attending on the day.
The organisations taking part are making full
use of the ample building and grounds of St Barnabas to provide
four hours of educational and recreational opportunities for young
people and families. Crewe Library will be demonstrating their
multi media unit which includes a youth ‘Chilling Zone’ section,
free access to the internet, free membership, game hire and more.
There will be street sports, Hip Hop and Troupe dancing, Judo and
Karate demonstrations, BMX promos and an unusual junk re-cycling
‘Graffiti Workshop’.
The Mayor’s 2008 Mayor’s Appeal focuses on ‘‘Lifelong Learning’ and
Cllr Silvester highlighted the need for more events like these to
be organised. He added: “The Young People’s Day is an
excellent concept and it will allow young people to experience new
activities that they may not previously have been aware of.
This can only bring positive benefits to individuals and families
from all walks of life and provide young people with more learning
opportunities and the chance to explore new skills. I sincerely
hope that we can roll out similar events in other areas and
encourage more young people to experience new challenges and skills
that will benefit them in their future. I would like to
extend my personal thanks to all the organisations that are
supporting this wonderful range of activities and I would
particularly like to thank Debra Goodwin of Crewe & Nantwich
Borough Council Community Development Team for her much valued
help”
The Young People’s Day has something for all
the family ranging from sports, dance, food demonstrations and the
arts. Partners supporting the event include Connexions, Cheshire
Fire Service, South Cheshire College, the Air Cadets and many more.
Reaseheath College are also giving dog owners a chance to make
their own customised dog tags and interact with a number of animals
on site.
The aim of this event is to bring together
local organisations and to highlight activities, both educational
and recreational, that young people can experience which are
available to them in their own area.
