On Tuesday, 1st July, the Deputy
Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich, Borough Councillor Rachel Bailey,
greeted a large group of students who have been visiting the
UK. Most of the students are studying agricultural
engineering and are from the region around Macon, the Borough’s
twin town that, last year, celebrates 50 years of its twinning
arrangement with the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich. Mâcon is
in the Saone-et-Loire department, to the south of the Burgundy
region, north of Lyon and near Cluny.
The students are visiting several parts of the
country and set off, following a mid-morning snack of locally
produced pork pies and sausages, to visit Reaseheath Agricultural
College at Nantwich. Their visit to Crewe was arranged by the
Crewe and Nantwich Twinning Association and they were accompanied,
for this part of their trip, by CANTA committee members, Clive and
Carol Lightfoot.
The Borough’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Bailey,
said: “I was very pleased to have the opportunity of meeting
and talking to this group of students. We value our links
with our European partners and exchange visits like this are a very
important part of the education process for young people and adults
alike.”
