The magnificent setting of Crewe Hall was the chosen venue for the very first Signal 1 Style Awards 2008 which was attended by The Mayor and Mayoress of Crewe and Nantwich, Councillor Brian Silvester and Ms Sheila Davies.

The Signal 1 Style Awards were created by Signal Radio to celebrate all that is stylish in South Cheshire and Staffordshire. The two counties are on the receiving end of increasing positive attention in the Northwest and internationally because of the high standard of entertainment venues, inspirational landmarks and visitor attractions. Signal Radio launched the awards this year as a positive and inspiring way to reward venues and people throughout the area.

A total of 12 awards were handed out on the evening and every winner was specially selected by the public.  Nominations poured in from both counties and in Crewe and Nantwich two companies were shortlisted in this exciting and glamorous competition. Crewe Hall were nominated for the ‘Best Hotel’ award and Curshaw’s on Welsh Row in Nantwich were nominated for the best ‘Bar’ award.

The Mayor and Mayoress were special guests on the evening and they were delighted when Crewe Hall won the ‘Best Hotel’ category. Peter Manby of Crewe Hall was honoured to have accepted this unique award on behalf of the hotel and staff.

The Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich, Cllr Brian Silvester was excited about this new event “The Signal 1 Style Awards are an innovative idea and are an exceptionally good way of encouraging people and organisations to strive for higher standards and encourage more visitors. The awards also demonstrate that in South Cheshire and Staffordshire we have a unique range of culture that is second to none. I am particularly pleased that we had two excellent local businesses from Crewe and Nantwich who were selected to take part in the evening; both of whom were equally deserving of an award”

Lisa Hughes, Signal Radio Station Director said of the style awards “Staffordshire and Cheshire are often overlooked when it comes to style and creativity. The region has a huge heritage and the Signal 1 Style Awards aim to honour that history by celebrating all that is stylish, in style!”

Over 200 guests attended the event and they were treated to a delicious meal that included Grilled Asparagus, Pan Fried Polenta, Soft Poach Egg with Shaving of Parmesan, Braised Lamb, Pesto Potato Puree, Ratatouille of Vegetables with aged White Balsamic vinegar followed by an Assiette of Strawberries.

X Factor contender and swing singer Tom Maguire entertained the crowd and rounded off an exceptional evening that was enjoyed by all.
