Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council Community Wardens are teaming up with Wistaston Green Parish Council, the local Scout Group, Junior Neighbourhood Wardens and The Environment Agency to carry out a clean-up day of the public open space known as Joey the Swan.  The multi-agency initiative to improve the quality of life for residents is set to bring benefits to the community, dog walkers and the local environment in the area.   It takes place on Saturday 5th of July.

Work on the Clean-up initiative will include clearing fly-tipped waste, removing broken glass, cutting back undergrowth, removing dog mess, clearing general litter and improving the environment in the area.  Improvements will also focus on cleaning footpaths which run through the area, helping to make the area one in which the whole community can take pride.  Follow up actions will be put in following the initiative, including increased Community Warden and Dog Warden patrols.

Councillor Jacquie Weatherill, Portfolio Holder for the Local Environment, said: “This is a very significant initiative and we are delighted at the support from the community and a range of agencies.  We are fully committed to working with all partners to clamp down on environmental enforcement and anti-social behaviour and to working to make the Borough one in which we can all take pride.  This initiative is a great example of that commitment having a real effect on quality of life for our communities.

People have commented that Joey the Swan was one of the good things about the area but they recognised that litter and general nuisance issues do not really make it an attractive place to spend time.  The event was seen as a small step towards helping local people continue to enjoy the facility and begin to look at ways of improving it.

This important local project will take place on Saturday 5th July 2008 between 10am and 1pm.  The Community Wardens are supporting the clean-up with partner agencies to improve the area.
