DANISH AND ENGLISH FOLK DANCERS IN
CREWE

The Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Brian
Silvester is in for a real treat on Tuesday 22nd July as
a group of Danish Dancers, joined by the Stafford Morris Men, are
paying the Mayor a visit.
But visitors into town can enjoy a treat too,
as the dancers have kindly agreed to perform on the town square at
3pm prior to their formal Borough welcome.
Shoppers will certainly experience a visual
delight. The colourful and elaborate costumes of the Danish
group, from Taastrup near Copenhagen, are handed down through
generations, and always create a lot of interest. Both groups
perform traditional dances, which many residents may not have seen
before.
The visit to Crewe has been organised by the
Stafford men who are hosting the Danes for a week long exchange
visit. Although the links between the two groups go back many
years, Squire of Stafford, John Colbert, said, “I hope the Danes
will enjoy some Cheshire hospitality, as well as visiting
places in and around Staffordshire.”
The Mayor Councillor Brian Silvester added,
“It is not often that our friends from overseas visit our Mayoral
Chambers. I am really looking forward to meeting them and
seeing their elaborate costumes and dance routines. I hope to
show them a real warm Borough welcome and consider they will enjoy
a visit to our lovely Municipal Buildings.”
