Tuesday 1st July
The weekend provided the opportunity for many
of the young people in the Borough to show off their skills in the
Junior 5 A-Side Football Festival. Nantwich Town FC and
partners, Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, were really proud to
have hosted the Nantwich Football Festival at the Weaver Stadium on
Saturday 28th June.
The competition attracted 54 junior teams from
the area and over 150 five a side games were played.
Representing the council at the event were the Mayor and Mayoress,
Councillor Brian Silvester and Ms Sheila Davies. Previously
held on The Barony, the competition, on this occasion, was held on
the club’s 3rd Generation pitch. The well run event, held in
dry conditions, saw five finals played before the seven hour
competition came to a close.
Speaking on behalf of the hosts, Nantwich Town
junior football coach Martin Haslam said: “It was a thoroughly
enjoyable occasion for both children and parents. We were
paid many compliments throughout the day and on behalf of the
referees, stewards, and volunteers I would like to say thanks to
all who attended and made it such an enjoyable occasion.”
Nantwich Town’s Club Welfare Officer Steve Smithies said:
”The day was a huge success and I would like to thank Geoff Beadle
and his team from Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council for all their
tremendous support.”
