The Community Arts Charity Fundraising event, ReAct, run by the Cultural Development Team for the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich, began in 2005 in reaction to the Tsunami disaster.  Now in its fourth year, it has raised over £8,000 for different charities including Forever Angels UK, The Railway Children and Macmillan Cancer Support.  This year ReAct 08 raised money for Hope House and the Mayors Charity of choice. The event will be held on Saturday 12th July.

Whilst raising money for the different charities, a variety of groups from all over the community are given the chance to perform on the Lyceum Theatre stage.  Groups, this year, include Stagecoach Nantwich, Tarporley Dance Group, Lyceum Youth Theatre, The Irish Clovers Dancers, Cheshire Dance and many more, with 15 groups performing in total.  This year we have professional artists ‘The Gandini Juggling Project’ headlining the event with a glowing, juggling performance.  We also have Samba dance workshops with professional samba dancer Clare Reynold with 25 young performers.

This event happens every year in July lasting a whole day and showcases the fabulous talents across the community, bringing people together to enjoy a day of acting, singing and dancing.

Both the Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich, Borough Councillor Brian Silvester, and the Mayoress, Ms Sheila Davies, as well as Mr Edward Timpson MP will attend the event.

Siân Rourke, event organiser and Community Arts Officer for Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, said:  “The event has been running for four years now and each year it gets stronger and stronger and, so far, over £8,500 has been raised for local charities.  The brilliance of this event is it really is the heart of our community coming together and showcasing the range and diversity of arts we have in the Borough, and we are a very talented Borough!”

Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, Borough Councillor Ray Westwood said:  “The imagination and enthusiasm of the groups of young people working on this project works to enrich the lives of all our citizens.  It is co-operative projects like this that help to forge real communities that are sharing and supportive.”
