Private Sector Housing Renewal Consultation

Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council has revised its Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy and will be consulting with landlords and the public during January 2008.

The current Crewe & Nantwich Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy was approved in July 2006, however the amount of funding from the Regional Housing Board was not confirmed, therefore it has been necessary to review the policy once again.

The revised policy, seeks to continue with some of the existing initiatives and change the major grant initiative into a loan product - to allow the most vulnerable households to ensure that their properties meet the Decent Homes Standard and that they are safe and secure to live in.  This means that the Council will offer disabled facility grants and home improvement assistance, e.g. cavity wall insulation and loft insulation.

Councillor Rachel Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Planning said: “The revised policy will work on private sector renewal to show improvements with the Borough, including

Decent Homes, Empty Properties, Energy Efficiency and Disabled Facilities Grants.  This in turn will lead to better homes for the residents of the Borough.”

Alastair Bain, the Council Private Sector Housing Team Leader said: “The consultation started on Monday 7th January 2008 and will run until Friday 1st February 2008.”

A full copy of the policy can be inspected free of charge at the Municipal Buildings, Earle St, Crewe, CW1 2BJ, Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm, from the 7th January 2008 until the 1st February 2008.

A summary of the policy is also available, and all the information is available on the Crewe and Nantwich website.
