Borough Council invests in crime and
disorder prevention to reduce cost of
crime
Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council is planning
to work closely with its strategic partners to further reduce the
incidence of crime and disorder in the area. Among the
measures that will attract extra investment during the next
financial year is an increase in the hours of coverage for CCTV
surveillance as well as improvements in the technology. These
measures will act to provide additional information to the police
and to the courts resulting in apprehension and conviction of
wrong-doers.
At the same time, there will be a further
major programme of investment in the “alley-gating”
initiative. This method of reducing crime by eliminating the
access and getaway routes, particularly to the rear of houses,
continues to be a successful deterrent to vandals, thieves and
other criminals.
The Portfolio Holder for Safer Communities,
Borough Councillor John Dwyer, is particularly pleased that the
Borough Council has worked with the Police to greatly extend the
coverage of Alcohol Free Zones (AFZs) in Crewe and in Nantwich.
Councillor Dwyer said: “To assist the
police in their fight against alcohol induced anti-social
behaviour, we will be introducing Designated Public Place Orders –
commonly referred to as Alcohol Free Zones - in the major urban
areas of Crewe and Nantwich. The cost of this will be in excess of
£50,000 but gives a positive signal that we will do everything we
can to make our Borough a safe place in which to live and work or
to simply visit.”
