Borough Council to approve Concessionary Fares
Scheme for Older and Disabled Residents
The Board of Crewe and
Nantwich Borough Council has planned for an increased demand for
concessionary bus fares in its budget for 2008/2009.
Anticipating that there will be more applicants and realising that
the Government grant would not fully fund the scheme, the Council
has made efficiency savings to ensure that there will be sufficient
resources to meet the demand.
The new scheme, which comes into effect on
1st April 2008, will provide free bus travel within
England for older and disabled residents and new bus passes will be
issued to applicants during February and March.
Councillor Ray Westwood, Portfolio Holder for
Neighbourhoods, said: “The announcement of this scheme is
great news for our disabled and older residents. We see this
as improving the quality of life for them. We are also
conscious of the positive impact on the environment that comes from
reducing the number of journeys by car.”
