Recognition For The Local Great and Good

Local people, groups and businesses efforts were given deserved recognition at the annual Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council Mayor’s Oscars, which took place on Friday, 22nd February to a packed Civic Hall venue.

The evening, which was attended by over 400 guests including the Mayor and Mayoress, was bigger and better than ever before.  Compared by John Newbould and Gary Shenton the awards ceremony kicked off with Volunteer of the Year and didn’t end until later in the evening with a Mayor’s Special Award.

Overall, there were eighteen categories as well as two Mayor’s Special Awards, which are given at the Mayor discretion.

Following the event, the Worshipful the Mayor Cllr Maurice Jones said: “The Mayoress and I were overwhelmed at the number and standard of nominations for this year’s Oscars.  Choosing the eventual winners was a difficult task because as far as we’re concerned they’re all local champions.”

He added: “I’d like to thank our sponsors for their continued support because without them this event wouldn’t be the highlight of the Mayoral year.”
