Alliance
comes together to increase Local Policing
resources
A unique alliance of Crewe and Nantwich
Borough Council, Wulvern Housing and Cheshire Police has joined
together to make our streets safer. Agreements have been
signed that part-pay for seven additional Police Community Support
Officers, commonly referred to as “PCSO’s”. The role of the
PCSO’s is to provide a visible uniformed presence in order to
contribute to the reduction of anti social behaviour and crime and
disorder and the promotion of public reassurance and quality of
life in the administrative area of the Council.
Through the agreement, the Constabulary, the
Housing Association and the Council will work together to ensure
that the PCSO’s are tasked with issues that are important to the
local community and relevant to the Local Community Strategy and
the Crewe and Nantwich Safer Communities Partnership.
Borough Councillor John Dwyer, Portfolio
Holder for Safer Communities, said: “I am delighted that
Crewe and Nantwich Borough has these extra resources patrolling our
streets. Crime and disorder are serious concerns for our
communities and we have invested in these extra PCSO’s to show that
we are taking those concerns seriously. I hope that we can reduce
the fear of crime and anti social behaviour by having an increased
uniformed presence on our streets.”
Wulvern’s Director of Partnerships Rob Allen
said: “We really value the work that PCSO’s are doing on our
estates. They are accessible to our residents and are helping to
provide reassurance to the public by solving issues before they
escalate. Our PCSO’s work in partnership with Housing and
Regeneration staff and often undertake joint visits. They are a
valuable asset helping to create communities where people want to
live”.
Superintendent Mick Garrihy from Cheshire
Police Eastern Area said: "The PCSO’s are proving an
invaluable part of community policing. By patrolling on foot they
offer reassurance to the public and become well known in their own
areas. They link up with partner agencies to find long -term
solutions to anti social behaviour problems and they are involved
in a lot of community projects. Working as part of a team they also
gather information at ground level which leads to arrests and
police operations against crime.”
"As examples, a PCSO dramatically reduced the
number of thefts from sheds in his area by obtaining free shed
alarms for people and by warning that criminals were
targeting sheds and lock-up garages. PCSO’s are also playing a
major part in road safety initiatives for primary school children
across the Borough. That will undoubtedly save some youngsters from
death or serious injury."
The Service Level Agreement covers a three
year period.
