The Queens Park Restoration Project is moving
in to a new phase as major structural engineering works are
launched. These include –
Bridge and Lake Edge Works
Retaining Wall Repair and Support
New Perimeter Railings and Gates
The work, part of the long and detailed
programme aimed at recapturing the park’s Victorian splendour,
requires some further tree clearance and replanting around the
southern perimeter of the park and on the northern
boundary. At the latter location, clay that is presently
stored at the North West events area, will be moved to provide
support for the retaining wall. The wall needs attention as,
in its current state, it is unsuitable for the erection of new
railings. Supporting the wall with a clay embankment will
strengthen the retaining wall. The County Council’s
Structural Engineer has approved these measures.
The Queens Park Restoration Project Manager,
Allan Leah, said: “We are still probably some way off seeing
what this great project is set to achieve. It is a huge
undertaking to put in place the sort of quality environmental
facility that residents and their descendents will be able to
admire and enjoy for decades. We have an alliance of many
agencies working together on this and the very large capital
investment is targeted at recreating a local beauty spot for all to
enjoy.”
