On Friday April 11th, the Mayor of the Borough
of Crewe and Nantwich, Councillor Maurice Jones, took delivery of
the Borough’s new official vehicle, a prestige Bentley Continental
Flying Spur. The car represents the very best in automotive
engineering and is a highly visible symbol of the spirit of
enterprise in the Crewe and Nantwich area.
This time, the Mayoral car is silver and
replaces the distinctive sky blue leased vehicle that has carried
the Mayor, Mayoress, Deputy Mayor and her Consort to and from
functions ranging from Royal receptions to school sports events and
visits to new business launches. Civic dignitaries from the
Borough’s twin towns of Macon in France and Bischofsheim in
Germany, who have been driven in the Bentley by Mayor’s Officer Les
Millington, have been bowled over by the quality of design and
build that continues to promote the area and its workforce.
Councillor Jones, who will be Mayor up to May
14th this year, said: “I have recently hosted a
civic hospitality day for other Cheshire Mayors and the Chair of
the County Council and they all feel that having Bentley Motor Cars
as our flagship industry puts the Borough in a great position among
the region’s best locations for business. When they visited
the Pyms Lane site, all the civic guests were impressed by the care
and attention to detail that go into making each car. Having
had the privilege and pleasure of travelling in one of these
fantastic cars during my year in office, I can see why the plant is
now building 10,000 a year to meet customer demand.”
