Big Investment in Borough boosts housing
programme

Crewe and Nantwich, along with the rural areas
surrounding the two towns has recently attracted exceptional
investment to boost the local housing and accommodation
stock. The money will provide a mix of shared ownership and
affordable rented properties.
Details of the funding is as follows –
£3.2million to the YMCA to redevelop the
current accommodation
£1.6million for new houses and apartments in
Crewe
£1.2 million for new supported housing in
Crewe
£400,000 for new apartments in
Nantwich
£500,000 for new housing in the rural
areas
The money comes from the Housing Corporation
as part of their National Affordable Housing programme– it does not
go to the Council but to individual Housing Associations. In
this case, the recipients are Wulvern, Muir and Crewe YMCA.
It is the first allocation from the money available over a 3
year period in the North West which totals £562m. The
Corporation has only allocated a portion of this so the Borough
should get more – another £3.2m worth of bids for C&N did not
get funding at this stage, but will be the subject of further bids
to the Corporation.
Vikki Jeffrey, Head of Housing for Crewe and
Nantwich Borough Council, said: “I am delighted that the
Housing Corporation have recognised the extent of the need for
affordable housing in Crewe and Nantwich by committing to the
highest allocation in Cheshire. This has been achieved
by our partnership working with Wulvern housing.”
The YMCA have also just been informed that
they will be receiving a further £2m from Communities for Local
Government for development of new services at the YMCA. This
will be aimed at developing the skills and confidence of the
residents and will also be available to the local community.
