Borough Council converts Bottled water to Mains fed water
coolers

Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council’s Pyms Lane
Depot have exchanged most of their bottle fed water coolers for
mains fed alternatives.
“We realised that transporting water around in
large heavy plastic bottles was damaging to the environment and
increased the Depot’s carbon footprint” said Paul Burns, Business
Manager for the Council. “The mains fed coolers will also be
installed at the Cemetery and Crematorium buildings in Crewe.”
“We were able to work with our existing
supplier to convert to mains fed coolers and expect that this will
not cost any extra money over the course of a year”, he
added.
The move comes as part of the Council’s
contribution to reducing carbon emissions. As a signatory to the
Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change, the authority is
committed to put in place an Action Plan to minimise its impact on
Climate Change.
Pyms Lane Depot has already installed
“sunpipes” in a windowless corridor and a toilet, to use natural
light instead of electric, and eco- friendly low energy hand
dryers which eliminate use of paper towels.
“The Action Plan needs to include relatively
small things such as this- and everyone can do something, whether
at work or at home, to help reduce carbon emissions. We invite
everyone to take a good look at what they do and use and see where
they too can make even small changes to save energy and
carbon”, added Paul.
