The Duke of Bridgewater/Azyl Public House and Resturant are
embracing the English culture by celebrating St Georges Day on
Wednesday 23rd April. The pub has Polish
proprietors and is a popular venue for the local Polish community
and English regulars, who enjoy its relaxed atmosphere, Polish food
and Polish beer.
"In Poland we regularly celebrate a variety of
saint's days, special days and public holidays," explained Jolenta
and Piotr Sobolewska, and Piotr Bonder who are joint landlords at
the Duke of Bridgewater. "We want to show the respect the
Polish community has for English customs. We will be offering
our customers a simple English menu which includes an English cream
tea. In this way we hope to give the community the
opportunity to learn about the legend of St George whilst enjoying
traditional English food"
This initiative has been supported by the
Changing Community in Crewe Project, funded by the Home Office, and
which aims to improve communication and community cohesion between
emerging and existing communities. Project workers have provided
information and advice about St George's Day to the Duke of
Bridgewater.
