On Monday 7th April, the Mayor of
Crewe and Nantwich, Borough Councillor Maurice Jones and Mayoress,
Mrs Ann Jones, visited staff at Leighton Hospital’s Red Team Ward
(Ward 9). The Mayor was hospitalised in November last year
and had a complete knee replacement made of titanium. The operation
was performed by Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Simon Barnes and his
highly-skilled team of medical staff. The Mayor, who spent
several months in a wheelchair or on crutches has made a remarkable
recovery and has even managed a twirl or two round the dance floor
with the Mayoress.
“I am so grateful to Mr Barnes and the staff
at Leighton. Their professional skill and medical care has
really made a big difference to me and, with every passing week
since my operation, I have noticed further improvements. I and
so many patients who have been treated at our local hospital are
proud of our local hospital and of its dedicated staff.”
The Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust which
manages the hospital as well as the Victoria Infirmary in
Northwich, has just been awarded NHS Foundation Trust status.
This is a very real accolade only granted to the best performing
NHS organisations. A very thorough assessment looks
particularly at finance, management and legal compliance before it
was allowed to call itself ‘Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation
Trust’ and adopt independent status.
“This is a great result for the trust”, said
Councillor Jones, “and I can see that the Borough has a hospital to
be proud of to add to its other centres of excellence.”
