January 2008 - New National Standard BMX Track Opens at Tipkinder

On Friday 18th January the new floodlit national standard BMX track at Tipkinder Park was officially opened by Gwyneth Dunwoody MP, Mayor of Crewe & Nantwich Cllr. Maurice Jones and representatives from the Borough Council, Groundwork, British Cycling, Ghostriders BMX Club, Horticon, Cheshire County Council and Barclays Spaces for Sport.

The track has been provided by the Borough Council with the assistance of Groundwork Cheshire and Cheshire Ghostriders BMX Club who will use the track as their new home. The Ghostriders-trained, gold medal winning Shanaze Reade, has already taken time out of her busy international sports schedule to come down and try out the track.

In addition to £100,000 invested in the facility by Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, the other valuable funding support for the project was provided by Barclays Spaces for Sports (£50,000), WREN (£40,000), Cheshire County Council (£23,000), plus further contributions of £7,000 from the Local Network Fund and £4,000 from Groundwork Cheshire.
