Falls Programme
The Health Development Team has played an important role in the design and implementation of an integrated falls service across central Cheshire. It initiated and designed a Falls Prevention Pack information pack which was launched at one of Borough “Vintage Leisure” sessions. Clients attending Older People’s activity sessions are initially assessed for falls risk and can then be fully assessed by council staff and referred if appropriate. In conjunction with Leighton Hospital, the “Next Steps” bag has been launched providing information to all 60+ individuals being discharged.
Step By Step

Step By Step is a walking programme incorporating two elements; firstly the provision of weekly led walks throughout the area of Crewe and Nantwich and secondly the design and production of literature to promote independent walking.

Currently there are 3 led walks per week that measure around 1.5 – 2.5 miles and target the sedentary population. Currently the number of participants in the scheme ranges from walk to walk, from as few as 8 to as many as 80. Themed walks are held occasionally incorporating various themes: mystery walks, nature walks, healthy heart walks, Crewe Hall Walk. The independent walking aspect has been developed in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University and a leaflet has been produced promoting six urban walks in Crewe town centre and surrounding areas

Wishing Well

Wishing Well is a multi-agency, community-led project, aiming to improve the quality of life of West End residents through the delivery of a weekly programme of multi-activity sessions at different venues in the West End of Crewe, Grosvenor, St Barnabas and Coppenhall wards). The content of the programme is agreed by local people and a number of sport and exercise activities and cook’n’eat sessions have already taken place.

Currently the varied programme of activities is being delivered at Broad Street School, Ludford Family Centre, Underwood West School, Marshfield Community Centre, Our House, Leighton Primary School and the Leighton Centre. Activities include Yoga, Parents and Tots, Dance, Football, Over 60’s, Alternative Therapies and After Schools Clubs, Cook’n’Eat and Playschemes. The scheme was awarded £643,551 by the New Opportunities Fund for a 5 year project with support funding from CNBC, Cheshire County Council and Central Cheshire PCT. That funding ceased in November 2007 and only some activities are currently being delivered. Wishing Well is now a company Limited by Guarantee, has a contract to deliver the Community Café at the new Eagle Bridge Centre and is attempting to secure further funding to sustain its future.
