The Health
Development Team
“The Borough Council’s health
development team manages and delivers a range of projects based on
two key principles:
- local authority has a key role to
play in improving the health of the local population.
- The Council should take positive
steps to ensure that its work impacts on as many people as
possible, particularly targeting those in greatest need.
Clearly, the determinants of health are wide ranging and local
authorities deliver a range of services which directly influence
those factors, including housing, planning, environmental health,
leisure and community development work.
The work of the Health Development Team tends to focus on those
“lifestyle” factors which people are able to affect by changing or
moderating their behaviour. A key feature of the programmes is that
they are delivered in partnership with health agencies and other
organizations who are able to provide access to individuals and
groups with particular health needs who might otherwise be
difficult to reach.”
Health Development Projects
The council has a key role to play in improving the health of
the local population and should take positive steps to ensure that
its work impacts on as many people as possible, particularly
targeting those in greatest need.
A key feature of working in partnership with health agencies and
others is that they provide us with access to individuals and
groups with particular health needs who might otherwise be
difficult to reach. Our initiatives are a mixture of both
prevention, therapy and rehabilitation in terms of health
improvement and can be applied at various stages along a client’s
care pathway.
Some our programmes therefore are linked to existing health
services, but they are all new, and do not replace services
previously delivered by health agencies. The majority of projects
tend to target a specific group related either to health need or
geographical location, with the activity and setting tailored to
appeal to, and meet he needs of, that particular group.
