TWINNING
What is twinning?
Twinning is all about people like you linking with people in
other countries and other cultures.
It's a way to expand all our horizons and share interests and
issues across international boundaries.

friendship and co-operation
Twinning is a special relationship formally cemented between
local authorities across national borders, with the main aim being
to foster friendly relations and promote international
understanding.
But more than that, it's an opportunity for everyone to make
new friends without frontiers, and to:
- Expand personal and professional horizons
- Enjoy the culture and pastimes of other towns
and countries
- Share ideas and experiences
- Visit and stay in each other's homes
Twinning has meant the lives and culture of people far away
have been brought closer to our Borough.
What does twinning offer my community
and me?
A community twinning association is now responsible for the
day to day running of twinning activities. Called CANTA (Crewe and
Nantwich Twinning Association), the new association aims "to
promote and foster friendship and understanding between the people
of Crewe and Nantwich and those of other nations". This will
include particularly links with Macon and Bischofsheim".
Membership of the new Association is open to anyone living in
the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich and to all those in the region
who are sympathetic with its aims. Corporate membership is
also available to local businesses, organisations and
schools.
Town Twinning gives you the chance to make contact with people
in Bischofsheim or Macon either individually, or as a group.
Twinning opens up a wider world of opportunity for you
to:
- Pursue a professional or cultural interest
- Share a hobby or sport
- Practice or learn a foreign language
- Support a development project
- Build business or other special interest contacts
- Sample overseas hospitality
Groups as diverse as choral societies, schools, fire-fighters,
football clubs and girl guides have benefited from twinning
activities and visits. Twinning has provided lifelong friendships,
a greater appreciation of other cultures and languages, and the
opportunity to have a great deal of fun.

Secretary, Carol Lightfoot via the CANTA website:
