Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, in
conjunction with various partners, are able to provide impartial
advice and information on all matters regarding saving energy
within your home, which will in turn save you money. The
information given could be related to specific products or just
general advice on methods and grants that are available.
TOP TIPS FOR ENERGY
SAVING
- Turn of lights when you leave the room.
- Do not leave TV and other appliances on standby.
- Close the curtains at night.
- Turn your central heating down.
- Only boil enough water for your needs.
- Use low temperatures wash cycles and always wash a full
load.
- Shower rather than bath.
- Make sure your hot water tank is well fitted, has not worn too
thin or become compressed.
- Don't put your fridge/ freezer close to a radiator or cooker
and don't leave the door open for long periods of time.
- Don't put furniture in front of radiators, or put clothes on
them.
- Use a plug in the basin when you are running hot water.
LOW-COST ENERGY SAVING
MEASURES
- Fit energy-saving light bulbs.
- Insulate your hot water tank.
- Draught-proof external doors and windows.
- Put foil behind radiators on external walls.
CANDI (CREWE AND NANTWICH DISCOUNT INSULATION)
The grant is 50% of the cost of the work or a
maximum of £100 per measure being paid to the owner of the property
and will assist towards the cost of installing loft insulation,
cavity wall insulation and/or solid wall insulation. If the owner
is in receipt of an income-related benefit, which would attract
grant aid from another source e.g. Warm Front or an energy utility,
then they would have to go through those schemes first.
The Cheshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre
deal with the residents on the CANDI scheme.
Also within the Borough, we will work with the
Cheshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, energy utilities and
energy contractors to provide extra measures including heating, to
residents, who are unable to afford to have the work carried out
and are also suffering ill-health due to the property being cold
and damp (subject to assessment).
If a resident applies for a Warm Front Grant
and has a contribution towards the cost of the work, we would allow
a maximum of £300 top-up allowance.
There is also a cashback scheme for the
installation of Renewable Energy technology. Again, you need to
contact the Advice Centre for details.
WARM FRONT GRANT
This is given by Central Government and is
available currently to anybody over the age of 18 years old and is
receipt of an income related benefit. Further details can be
obtained from the Cheshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre on the
telephone number below.
AWARENESS EVENTS
From time to time the Council will hold energy
awareness events within the Borough, by means of talks or the
giving out of low energy light bulbs, which will be advertised in
the local press and on the Council's website.
