Tree of Light Ceremony
More than 500 people gathered for
the Tree of Light ceremony at Crewe Cemetery on the 1st December.
Before the switch on carols were sung by The Berkeley Primary
School choir and local singer Andre.
Councillor John Hammond,
Portfolio Holder for the Local Environment said:
"This was a very moving experience,
with people of all ages and denominations coming together to
quietly remember those loved ones whom they had lost. I would like
to thank everyone involved in making this occasion such a great
success."
Mary Slinn, Cemeteries and Crematorium Manager
said:
"This year we have been inundated
with requests for stars, nearly 1400 have been placed on the trees,
and people have been extremely generous with their donations. The
donations will be used to purchase a seat made from reclaimed
timber which will be put around the tree of light, making it a
special place throughout the year."
Two books containing all the
dedications on the trees can be found in the Book of Remembrance
Room at Crewe Crematorium over the Christmas and New Year
period.
