Nantwich Historical Trail
The Nantwich Historical Trail, launched three years ago, has
been a great success and up-dated in recent weeks. It consists of
an historical walk devised by Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council’s
Town Centre Management, with the expertise of the Nantwich Civic
Society plus a local historian. It is intended to be a “taster” for
the lovely town of Nantwich and all she has to offer.
Inserted into the pavement are a
number of bronze plates, indicating historical buildings of
interest whilst you are around town. The bronze foot-plaques are
designed with a clock face and as you proceed around the town, you
move around the clock i.e. 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock and so on.
Councillor Bill McGinnis, Portfolio
Holder for Leisure, added, “It is unusual for a town to be able to
offer a free quality guide, but with the kind support of traders
the printing has been absorbed by businesses making a wider
distribution possible to attract people onto town. The trail has
been long awaited and is a welcome addition to the marketing of our
lovely town of Nantwich. You can either follow the trail in its
entirety or split your route into smaller sections.”
Elaine Dodd, Crewe and Nantwich Town
Centre Manager, who inspired the trial added, “The Guide is unique
in its flexibility, unlike those which are number only lead. The
added nicety is that whilst around the town, those following the
trail will find historical inns, fine restaurants and cosy cafes,
together with a wealth of unique and different ideas for shopping
in over 250 specialist stores and a traditional market.”
The printed brochure also features a
number of beautiful water colours painted by Nantwich’s own famous
artist, Haydn Jones, (copyright applies) and are reproduced with
permission of A B & H Prints on behalf of J Haydn Jones
Estate.
