Q) What laws will I have to deal with?
A) The main law affecting market traders is
the Trade Descriptions Act 1968. This Act aims to protect consumers
from misleading or false descriptions of goods. It applies to all
suppliers, manufacturers and retailers of goods, services,
facilities and accommodation. It is the business's responsibility
to see that the goods, services, facilities and accommodation sold
or provided are not falsely described.
Legislation on misleading price indications was made under the
Consumer Protection Act 1987.
The Shoppers' Charter and Refund Policy are intended as extra
reassurances for customers. They do not affect people's rights
under this legislation.
