Q) What marketing help does the Council give to
traders?
A) The Council has a small marketing and
advertising budget for the market, used to promote the market
generally. This also covers signs, banners and posters.
The Market Traders' Committee charges a small weekly levy to
cover advertising costs. This money is used to promote the market
as a whole- including events, purchase of branded carrier bags,
etc.
The market manager and Market Traders' Committee jointly
organise special promotional events to encourage custom. These may
be themed and focus on a particularly active retail period, such as
Christmas or Halloween. There are opportunities for your business
to attract free publicity by participating in such
initiatives.
Advice on the customer base for specialist markets (farmers,
craft, etc) is available from the Council.
