  • Secondary industries have a larger proportion of employment compared to the North West and England as a whole.
  • In recent years, a wide range of new companies has been attracted to the District, with a growing high technology, distribution and service sector element, marking a shift away from the more traditional manufacturing and engineering industries.

GVA figures on per head basis rank Cheshire as being 5th out of 37 NUTS-2 Areas in the UK.

  • GVA is defined as the sum of all incomes earned from productive activity; that is income from employment, self employment, and gross trading profits and rent. This term was previously GDP and was changed to reflect European accounting practice terminology.

Notes:
  1. The headline GVA series for this publication have been calculated using a five-period moving average.
  2. Estimates of workplace based GVA allocate income to the region in which commuters work.
  3. Provisional.
  4. Since data is based on current basic prices, car should be taken when interpreting as the effects of inflation wi.ll be included in year on year changes.
  5. Forecast data is inherently uncertain. Projections are based on historical figures and as such are associated with demi-regularities i.e. associations that hold only a proportion of the time. Since the data is historical, new developments that may affect the model and heavily influence the variables are not included. Models used only account for a proportion of the observed change and as such are in no way complete. Hence projections should be treated with caution.
