CONCESSIONARY BUS TRAVEL -
NEW NATIONAL SCHEME
The 2006 Budget announced that free off-peak
bus travel anywhere in England for people aged 60 and over and
disabled people resident in England would be in place from
April 2008.
All existing bus pass holders will need to be
issued with a new pass prior to April next year. A standard
national pass is required to ensure that the pass is recognised
anywhere in England so that the holder can take advantage of the
new concession. In advance of this, we are writing to all
households in the Borough to ensure that every eligible resident
has the opportunity to apply for the new concessionary bus
pass.

Current passes will be valid until a new pass
is issued. When the new pass is issued further information
will be provided about its use and entitlement.
There is likely to be several months’ delay
between returning the form and receiving a new pass. This time
delay is nothing to be concerned about but processing and printing
time is required as part of the reissuing procedure. We anticipate
that new passes will be issued shortly before April 2008.
