HOUSING AND COUNCIL TAX BENEFIT

Data Protection Act
 
The Data Protection Act 1998 is designed to protect you.
 
You are entitled, on making a written request, to be given any data we hold about you, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.  This is known as a Subject Access Request, for which there is a £10 fee. You will find more information about the Data Protection Act and your rights on the main data protection page.
 
We may pass the information we hold about you onto other agencies or organisations such as the Department for Work and Pensions as allowed by law.
 
We may also check the information you have provided against other information we already have.
 
We will not give the information about your claim for benefit to anyone else unless:
You have given us your written consent i.e. for a solicitor or family member
  • You have an appointee acting on your behalf
  • You have asked for your benefit to be paid directly to your landlord
 
What information can be given to your landlord?
 
Your personal information will not be given to your landlord i.e. your income details, your date of birth or details of your family.
 
If Housing Benefit payments are being sent to you, no details about your claim will be given to your landlord
 
If you have asked us to send payments of Housing Benefit direct to your landlord we can tell them the following
 
If we are still waiting for further information from you
  • The date your benefit starts and ends
  • The weekly amount of benefit
  • The dates of payment
  • If your claim is suspended
  • If your payments are being sent to your landlord and you ask for future payments to be sent to you, we will tell your landlord of your request
If you think we have given anybody information about you that we are not allowed to, please tell us. We need as much information as possible.
